Video Producer, Communications Dept., EXPLO (Exploration School, Inc.) | 2016-Current
My responsibilities include planning, scripting, coordinating, shooting, editing, publishing, and archiving all digital video content for the organization. EXPLO operates in-person summer programs for 2,500 students every year, in addition to online program offerings, and I am single-handedly responsible for capturing the full range of video content for use in marketing, requiring full days of shooting each summer, and intensive editing following thereafter. During other points in the year, I create scripted, documentary, and animated content for the EXPLO website, including hero videos, landing page content, and social media ads for multiple platforms and audiences. Adapting to the changing needs of the organization, I incorporated multi-camera livestreams into our recruiting process, established the EXPLO YouTube channel, and continue to develop content specific to our existing social media platforms. In addition to my role as Video Producer, I am the key in-house figure for the backend development of the website and associated landing pages.
Video Producer, EXPLO Studio, EXPLO (Exploration School, Inc.) | 2016-2018
EXPLO Studio's role within the larger EXPLO organization was as an outreach wing, creating hands-on, engaging, and innovative curriculum to further spread the EXPLO message of project-based learning into schools around the world (now folded into EXPLO Elevate). My role was to plan and produce video content that expanded upon proprietary curriculum projects. These videos struck a balance between highlighting the quirky nature of our projects – and thus inspiring student investment in their completion – and conveying critical instructional content.
Cinematographer/Producer/Editor/Animator, Freelance | 2010-Current
My work includes independent and documentary films, branded commercial advertisements for social media and beyond, music videos, streaming videos, engaging interactive content, and television shows. I've worked hands-on with a wide array of camera systems from every manufacturer of mirrorless/DSLRs all the way up to the 35mm Aaton Penelope and RED platforms. I've shot and edited work in 8mm, 16mm, 35mm, HD, and 4K+. I've also accumulated many hours in production environments as a part of Grip & Electric teams and Art Departments. I've produced and creative directed content for multiple international Fortune 500 companies, seeing projects from all aspects of ideation all the way through publishing and implementation. I pride myself on keen organization and warm and consistent communication skills. As a fanatic of clean and efficient systems design, I believe in a spreadsheet that is aesthetically pleasing, as well as being fully functional for all parties involved. I pride myself on being an effective producer, based solely on my firsthand knowledge of production and post-production work environments. I've worked on narrative and non-narrative editing of projects. I've animated kinetic motion graphics, logo designs, and UI/UX mockups. I know what it takes to get the job done right and on time, and that makes me an effective leader and project manager, being able to successfully bridge the gap between client and content creator.
Associate Producer, A&E’s “Flipping Boston” | 2011-2012
On the home renovation reality show, “Flipping Boston,” I was responsible for day-to-day wrangling of the cast, developing and telling stories as they occurred, functioning as a B-camera operator on major plot points, and shooting b-roll, time-lapses, and interviews. Multiple episodes were shot simultaneously around the Greater Boston area, requiring organization of plot points between sites so as not to overlap stories or miss critical content, as well as demanding an understanding of the overarching narrative arc and style of the season.
Sales Associate, Hunt’s Photo & Video | 2010-2011
Sales Associates at Hunt's work in a direct customer service role, often serving repeat clients, which enables the establishment of ongoing consulting relationships. The priority is to meet the customer's needs above all else, with an expectation of knowledge on all available current models and accessories, as well as the techniques that the customer is using in their projects. In addition to being versed in existing products, I pursued information regarding new products in order to offer customers with an idea of "what's next" and help them find the best value for their money. I also served as a key video instructor in courses on video production techniques being offered by the organization. Since moving on from this role, I have continued to keep up with ever-changing photo and video products and technologies.
Adjunct Professor, Syracuse University | 2009-2010
As an adjunct professor, I taught two courses in Syracuse University’s Department of Industrial & Interaction Design. Working to bridge the gap between the city and the University, one course focused on a partnership with Syracuse Opera, where students created the video backdrop to accompany a live performance of Wagner’s The Flying Dutchman, and the other focused on a partnership with a local business, where students designed interactive displays to reconfigure a storefront in downtown Syracuse as part of a revitalization initiative. In both, students integrated the interactive technology from Urban Video Project, demonstrating its multitude of uses.
Video Producer, Urban Video Project (UVP), Syracuse University | 2008-2010
Working directly with an associate faculty member in the University’s Department of Industrial & Interaction Design, we developed the world’s first permanent, building-size outdoor video projection installations in various locations across downtown Syracuse. The exhibits were a part of a multimedia public art initiative that opened the platform to everyone from community members and local students to internationally-renowned video artists and photographers. In my role, I facilitated the relationships between UVP, the artists, and the community. I was responsible for scheduling exhibits, programming interactive content, 24/7 technical administration and repair of systems, and the planning, marketing, and execution of our community events.
